Hello and Welcome to my website!

My name is Trudie le Roux.

I am registered as a counselling psychologist with the

Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

I believe in the transformative power of Truth, Love and Resilience. They are my coordinates. I believe that these coordinates will change your life.

By embracing truth, love and resilience you will become kind to yourself, others and the world. The key lies in facing and understanding your own truths, accepting yourself and navigating adversities with love and resilience.

ABOUT ME

Counselling Psychologist

This journey will allow you to develop resilience and embark on a life with mindfulness, leading to self-actualization, happiness and meaning.

In my 40 years as a psychologist', I have encountered various psychological issues and continue to learn through client experiences and professional development. In my approach I integrate psycho-dynamic theory, attachment and existential theory. In simple terms: I use your unconscious motives and past experiences to get to the root of the challenges you may be facing. I use various techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and the innovative Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT) to address your emotional reactions and create positive change. Let me explain: you may have certain negative and unpleasant memories that cause you to experience emotional reactions. Over time you develop negative neural pathways resulting in those emotional reactions manifesting themselves repeatedly.

BWRT is designed to help you in eliminating your emotional reactions and creating new neural pathways and patterns for future use. The results are almost immediate. But in all of this I follow the thinking of Prof Irvin D. Yalom who says: “Look out of the others’ window. Try to see the world as your patient sees it.” (from his book The Gift of Therapy)

In addition it is important for me to be mindful of your experiences in the present moment and to assist you in the process of meaning-making. As a South African psychologist, I work with a diverse group of patients from different religious, racial, gender and disability backgrounds.  I assist adults and young adults individually as well as couples and families with the challenges listed below. I also have an interest in assisting patients with medical challenges and the related psychological effects. I help and assist clients cope with their lifestyle adaptation after encountering medical problems.

The relationship between you and your therapist is very important. The journey of change you are embarking on is a deeply intimate one in which you may feel vulnerable. I truly understand that and know that a trusting relationship between us will help you immensely. I will create a safe space for you to feel comfortable to freely share your challenges. In my 40 years I have come to realise how self-conscious it may make you feel to share your intimate details with a stranger. But remember: I try to see your world through your window. That makes me a little less of a stranger.

And I treat your information and feelings without judging and with the utmost respect and confidentiality.
